We’ve got rain in San Diego. This means crazy traffic, flooding and leaky roofs. But it also means lowering water usage (read= saving water), healthy plant material, and GROWING plants! It also mean weeds throughout San Diego. We are looking at above average rain fall which is absolutely wonderful for the water table in San Diego and helps keep us away from drought conditions. You will notice however that your water bills are not going down!
Back to the weeds… Rain, when followed by sun and warmth causes plants to grow. You can expect healthy plant material and a lot of weeds to fill in everywhere! From your landscape contractors perspective, I would ask for “grace” during this time as we get back to work and eliminate the weeds in the planters, grass, and sidewalks. We use a variety of methods to control weeds including pre-emergent weed control which helps prevent seeds from germinating and then sprouting. We use chemical controls to kill the weeds once they sprout. And of course, we hand pull weeds that have grown more than 6″. Our goal is to maintain a weed-free environment for you, although, that is not always possible. When we see lot’s of rain (such as we have), the weeds grow like crazy. It may take a few weeks to get it all under control, but we will! We promise!
Rain also means flooding. Your landscape contractor has trained their team to purposefully search for clogged drains, downspouts, and gutters. Our crew leaders are actively looking for drains that have trapped dirt around the edges, or covered the drains; we always uncover those drains before a rain as a way to prevent pooling or flooding. We inspect and clean drainage swales, removing leaves, dirt, branches and rocks.
In addition to excess weeds and drains, rain creates a HUGE mess! Our team is not working normal hours during the rain. Why you ask? It is unsafe to have our hard-working team working in wet conditions, besides, it is incredibly unproductive to cut grass or branches! The mess it creates is in many ways worse! Our team will return to work after the rain with ONE MISSION- TO CLEAN UP YOUR PROPERTY!
It is also critical that your irrigation system is turned off! If you have a smart system with flow sensing and a master valve this can be easily turned off from our phone. If you have a typical system, your landscape contractor should have sent a team member specifically to turn it off!
Rain to you means a decrease in your water bill, and healthy plant material. Rain for us means big clean ups coming, weed control, opportunity to fertilize and plant (take advantage of the free water!), and cleaning drains and swales! We want to help you take advantage of the rain and make it work for you!
As always, we are ready to go to work for you. If you have a property you would like to receive a proposal for landscaping maintenance, we are here to help!
